How do I install an update?

The Office Maker and BiblioMaker programs, in both single-user and client-server versions, include an update function that greatly simplifies the installation of new versions.

When the program is started, and provided that the user who logs on has the necessary permissions, a message is automatically displayed to inform the user that an update is available. The user can then either start the update process immediately, or postpone it temporarily, or ignore the new version if it does not bring any benefits (in which case the programme will inform the user of the availability of the next update).

If the user has not accepted the update proposal because the timing was not right, he or she can later proceed with the update by calling up the Check for update….. command in the Help menu.

Caution: In client-server mode, updating the software requires all connected users to be disconnected for a few minutes. Therefore, it is best to start an update at a convenient time to minimise the loss of productivity. It is also recommended to coordinate with the IT manager so that he or she can intervene quickly in case of a problem.

The following articles describe the update mechanism:

Note: In the cloud version, users do not have to worry about updates, as they are performed by Micro Consulting. Therefore, the Help menu contains a command called What’s New? instead of the Check for Updates… command, which informs users about the new features of the installed version.
