Avoid rushing into a major new version of Windows or macOS

Microsoft develops the Windows® operating system and Apple macOS®. Every year, Apple releases a major new version of macOS, usually in the fall. Microsoft's release schedule is more irregular.

It can be tempting to install a new version as soon as it becomes available. However, we don't recommend this reflex. Here's why:

A new major version generally brings a large number of improvements that are visible to the user, and others that are less so, but are just as important. Software running under Windows or on a Mac relies on operating system functions. If these functions change, there is a risk that they will become incompatible with certain programs such as Office Maker or BiblioMaker. The result is that these programs no longer work as well as they used to, if at all, which can be problematic for the users who need them.

Our recommendation is therefore to wait a few weeks or months before carrying out these updates, and to check with Micro Consulting and other publishers that your essential programs are compatible with the new version of the operating system. In general, major updates are followed by minor updates to correct teething problems.

We keep the required configuration for our software up to date, and suggest you refer to it.
