Office Maker and BiblioMaker not compatible with iPad and Android tablets
Unfortunately, we don't offer iPad versions of our software, for a number of reasons:
- Our software requires a physical keyboard for data entry; a software keyboard would cover too much of the screen. And if we're going to have a keyboard, we might as well use a laptop like a MacBook Air or a Microsoft Surface PC, which offer a better-balanced solution (keyboard in the heavier part with a lighter screen, rather than the other way round).
- User interface conventions are very different on iPad. For example, it's not possible to have several windows open at the same time, there's no menu bar, and buttons have different shapes. Almost everything would have to be reprogrammed to achieve a less productive solution without multi-windows.
- Apple prohibits the installation of self-updating applications on iPadOS. We need to be able to update client software immediately when the cloud server is updated.
That said, our software uses interface elements large enough to be used with touch screens, and it is possible to use Windows-based tablets or detachable screen computers such as the Microsoft Surface range.
We also offer OMB Mobile, a simplified and free access to Office Maker Business, running in a browser and therefore on any operating system, including iPadOS, iOS and Android. It provides access to essential data when on the move, for example, to find a customer's contact details from a phone or enter a billable activity on an iPad. A Mac or PC is still required for the back office.
BiblioMaker library software also features a web interface for online catalog consultation. Library users can query the catalog, consult their account, reserve items or extend loans, or even register the borrowing or return of titles from a tablet or smartphone.
