How do I call a reader or a book in the loan management window?

The BiblioMaker loan management window contains a field labeled Entry Code. This is where you identify the borrower of a document as well as the document borrowed, reserved, renewed or returned.

Several methods are available for this identification:

Call a library user

  • If you created a card for your patrons, just scan the barcode on the card.
  • In a school library, you can print a list of pupils sorted by class. This list (called "Barcode list") contains a barcode besides each pupil's name. Just scan this barcode.
  • If you don't have barcodes, enter the patron's first or last name after the "Slash" character. For instance : /smith or /kevin (if several patrons sport the same family name or first name, you get a selection window).
  • If the patron has already been called in the last minutes, call the Call back last reader command in the Entry menu, then select him/her in the list.

For the record, to register the renewal of a loan or return of a document, it is not necessary to identify the reader: in the Renewal or Remove-Return entry mode, you can directly identify the document in question.

Call a title

  • Scan the title barcode (either the barcode label sticked on the title or the ISBN).
  • Enter some relevant words from the title after a backslash. Example : \harry potter (if several titles contain the same word, a selection window is displayed).
  • Enter the title number after the # character. Example : #1234
  • Call in the Entry menu the Find Title or Search Title command. Specify then the search criterion: title, author, shelf mark, etc.

Of course, if you called the library user first, all the titles he/she lent are displayed in his/her account and you can simply select the title with the mouse in order to register a renewal or a return.
