Decompressing an encrypted ZIP file fails in Windows

A ZIP file is the result of compression designed to reduce its size. A ZIP file can be encrypted to ensure its confidentiality.

Office Maker Staff can compress and encrypt salary certificates sent to employees by email. The recipient of the salary certificate will need to enter a password defined in their employee record in order to decrypt and decompress the ZIP file.

Windows 11 version 24H2 can decompress ZIP files as long as they have not been encrypted. For encrypted ZIP files, decompression will fail: in this case, Microsoft recommends using third-party software such as 7-Zip or WinRAR.

All versions of macOS natively support encrypted ZIP files.
