Fixing printing issues

You are using Office Maker or BiblioMaker and want to print a list, labels, reminders, etc., but can't get the desired result? Here are a few tips to help you out:

Printer issue

If the software seems to send the print command, but you get nothing from your printer, the problem may lie with the printer itself, or with the network (or the cable connecting the printer to the computer), or with the printer driver software.

Try printing with another program (e.g. e-mail, Word/Excel document, etc.). If the problem also occurs, you can rule out the possibility that it's caused by the Office Maker application.

  • Make sure the printer is switched on and has enough paper. If necessary, restart the printer.
  • Make sure the print queue (storing all print orders) is not in pause mode.
  • Under Windows, call up the Troubleshooter tool.
  • Update your printer driver.

The application crashes

When printing, the software freezes and you need to force a restart.

Try printing again. If the problem persists, try using another print format to determine whether it's the specific print format that's at fault, or whether the problem is more general. Also try printing a list with other records, which will tell you whether it's the data file or the program that's damaged. Depending on the results of your tests, reinstall the software or repair the data file.

If you're working in client-server or cloud mode and the crash occurs on your workstation, regenerate the resources by following the instructions in this article.

Not the content you want

You get a printout, but the data printed is not what you wanted, or the program displays a "No record found" message instead of starting the printout? Please note the following points:

  • Most print formats are based on the current records selection. For this reason, you must first make the selection manually or via the search functions, and then call up the Print command.
  • However, it is possible to associate a search formula with many print formats. In this case, the records selection you have already made may be ignored. Check the options associated with a print format via the Options button in the Print dialog: the Cogwheel button at the bottom left of the Options dialog contains a command named Define Search or Modify the search. When calling up this command, make sure that a search formula does not modify the current selection of records.
  • Some print formats contain filters in the Options, for example to limit records by creation date or other criteria. In the print dialog, select the print format, then click on the Options button to check and, if necessary, modify the filter.
  • Some print formats use special fonts, such as barcodes. If you get numbers and letters instead of bars, the barcode font has not been installed. Please contact technical support for this installation (BiblioMaker users: see this article).

Printing preview out of order

You'd like to preview your printout and have checked the Preview box in the print dialog or in the favorites bar, but you're not getting any results? Have a look at this article.
