New features in the online catalog in BiblioMaker version 8

Version 8 of BiblioMaker brings several new features to the WebOPAC server for the online catalog:

Improved response times

A major optimization effort has been undertaken, resulting in spectacular results: the loading time of the homepage and searches are greatly accelerated. 

Online Catalog Configuration

You can define the parameters for the web public search via the new Web menu, command Configure public search WebOPAC. For technical reasons, it is no longer possible to define several different configurations. Therefore, calling this command now directly displays the input window for the parameters, whereas previously a dialog listing the different configurations was displayed.

Web server running on a client computer not available any more

In the client-server mode, the integrated WebOPAC server could run on the server hosting the database or on another computer equipped with the BiblioMaker Client software, which acted as a gateway between the database and the Internet users. This latter configuration was rarely used, mainly for performance reasons. From version 8 onwards, the WebOPAC server runs only on the server.

If you are one of the few users with the OPACWeb server installed on a computer other than the server, we recommend that you review your configuration BEFORE proceeding with the installation of version 8 (note that users of our cloud solution are not affected).

To find out on which computer your WebOPAC server is running, please proceed as follows:

1. Start BiblioMaker Client and log in as Administrator.
2. In Maintenance (File>Maintenance), call in the Other menu>Configure Public Search WebOPAC command.
3. Select the configuration in service (identifiable by the button labeled Stop) and modify it.
4. In the configuration settings, check the status of the checkbox Web server running on a client computer. If this checkbox is not checked, your Web OPAC server is running on the server: you can therefore proceed with the update to version 8 of the software. Otherwise, please contact us.
5. If multiple configurations have been defined, check each of the configurations. Note: some configurations may no longer be used and can be deleted.

Starting from version 8, the checkbox Web server running on a client computer is no longer available, as it has become unnecessary.
