Cataloguing titles, entering Analysis
The cataloguing grid consists of several pages. One of the pages contains the fields for analysing the title content.
Subjects field
This field contains a list of topics covered by the document.
Enter one subject per line.
BiblioMaker manages an index of subjects previously entered in the database. To avoid input errors, we recommend that you enter only the first few letters of the subject, so that the program displays similar subjects already saved. For example, if you enter pol, the program will display a selection window containing all subjects beginning with pol (e.g. Police, Politics, Poltergeist, etc.). If you find the subject you want in the list, the program copies the complete subject into the field. If, on the other hand, the subject is not found, the program will suggest that you add it to the index.
When you enter a new subject, a field is available to link it to another subject. Different types of referrals are possible:
- See (or Use*) : the topic currently being entered cannot be used. The synonym to which the subject refers must be used. Example : City See Town
- See also (or Associated term*) : the topic being entered is close to another existing topic. When searching with this topic, the link will offer the user the option of broadening the search with another term. Example : Bee See also Wasp
- Broader term* : the topic being entered refers to another more general topic. Example : Criminal law and Civil law both have the Law subject as a broader term.
- Narrower term* : the topic being entered has another existing topic as a more precise term. Example: Law has as specific terms, among others, the subjects Criminal Law and Civil Law.

Abstract field
This field contains an abstract.
Keywords field
This field contains keywords.
Enter one keyword per line.
Keywords are similar to subjects, but there are two important differences:
- Keyword entry is not controlled by the system. In fact, there is no keyword index on which the program can rely to signal a possible input error.
- Keywords do not contain cross-references to other keywords.
If you have to choose between subjects and keywords to enter the subjects covered by the documents, we recommend subjects, which offer more possibilities.
