Account level assignment
An account's Level defines its degree of nesting in the chart of accounts hierarchy. There are fifteen possible nesting levels, so the Level must be a number between 1 and 15.
The Level is particularly important for defining which accounts should be grouped together in a totalizing account.
Level | Account No. | Name |
1 | 1 | ASSETS |
2 | 10 | CURRENT ASSETS |
3 | 100 | CASH |
4 | 1000 | Cash A |
4 | 1001 | Cash B |
3 | 101 | Post office |
3 | 102 | BANKS |
4 | 1020 | Bank 1 |
4 | 1021 | Bank 2 |
2 | 11 | FIXED ASSETS |
3 | 110 | Buildings |
3 | 111 | Tools |
1 | 2 | LIABILITIES |
Accounts defined as totalizers appear here in bold, capitalized type.
In this example, the Level corresponds to the number of digits in the Account No., but this is not mandatory.
A totalizing account accumulates all lower-level accounts (those that follow it directly in the main window up to the next account of the same level) of the same type (in the Light version) or of the same type and position (in the Standard and PRO versions).
So, in our example, the CASH account combines the two cash registers A and B; account No. 10 combines all accounts from 100 to 1021; account No. 1 combines all accounts up to No. 2.
