Start of Office Maker Server or BiblioMaker Server as a service on Windows, stops after a few seconds

When installing Office Maker Server or BiblioMaker Server on Windows, the program can be registered as a Windows service to automate its start-up. For technical reasons, the service cannot be started with the local system account: in the service Properties, choose another account (with administrator rights) or create a new account for the occasion.

If you create a specific account, you must log in with that account so that Windows can create the standard folder hierarchy in the account's folder.

Once in the account session, start Office Maker Server or BiblioMaker Server via File Explorer or the Start menu, and select the data file to be opened so that the program can memorize the path.

Issue with the path to the data file

After quitting the program, start the service and make sure it starts correctly and stays started. If the service stops working after a few seconds, it's probably because the service hasn't found the file storing the path to the data file to be opened. This file can be found at the following location :

C:\Users\[User account]\AppData\Roaming\[App name]\lastDataPath.xml

If necessary, copy this file from another account that has already run the program and paste it into the same folder of the account used by the service.

Issue with the backup log file

Another possible cause of premature service termination is that, upon startup, the service cannot find the log file that is updated in real time for backups. To resolve this issue, simply start the server program via File Explorer and specify the location/create the log file. After exiting the software, restart the service.

Issue with the program version

It may also be that the data file was opened with a version of the software that is newer than the service version, which would have caused the data file to be updated. To test this hypothesis, locate and open a log file located in the same folder as the data file. If the log contains an entry indicating that the program is older than the data, you will need to update the server software.
