Choosing the network layer for the local client-server version

Starting with version 7.4 of Office Maker and BiblioMaker, communication between client and server software uses by default a new network layer called QUIC. This layer offers a number of advantages, including enhanced security and greater efficiency on low-speed networks.

The QUIC network layer uses the UDP protocol, not TCP. However, UDP is sometimes blocked by IT policy. If this policy cannot be relaxed, you'll need to configure your server to use the network layer offered by previous versions of our software. Here's how to do it:

  • If your server is a Windows PC and the server application is running as a service, stop the service after ensuring that no users are logged in.
  • Start up Office Maker or BiblioMaker Server.
  • Call up the File/Edit>Settings>User settings for data file command. In the Client-Server tab, select the desired network layer:

- Legacy : old layer to be chosen only as a last resort.

- ServerNet : previous layer to choose if QUIC is not an option.

- QUIC : current layer that should be chosen if compatible with your network policy.

  • Validate the changes, then restart the server application (under Windows, start the service after exiting the server application).

Note: if your database is hosted on our cloud server, please contact us so that we can change the network layer.
