Windows protected print mode

Windows 11 version 24H2, released in autumn 2024, introduces a new printer-related concept: protected print mode.

If this mode is activated, printing is carried out via a universal driver, rather than using the drivers specific to each printer model.

Please note that not all printer models are compatible with the universal driver. To find out whether your printer is compatible, please visit this website of the Mopria alliance, which brings together various printer manufacturers.

To activate protected print mode, open your PC's Settings and in the Bluetooth and devices > Printers and scanners > Windows protected print mode section, click on the Configure button. Please note: activating this mode removes all installed printer drivers, leaving only the universal printer driver. Make sure your printer is compatible.

For further information on protected printing, please visit the Microsoft website.
