Account number assignment

The Account No. is made up of a maximum of 15 characters, which can be numbers, letters or certain authorized special characters: the dot (.), the slash (/) and the space. Accounts are sorted alphabetically in ascending order from the first character; two accounts with the same first character will be sorted according to their second character, and so on for the following characters. For example, the order would be as follows:

  • 1
  • 10
  • 1000 CA
  • 1000 CB
  • 2
  • 20
  • 2001
  • 2002

When a new account is created, it is automatically placed in the correct position in the chart of accounts, unless the default Sort field is not Account No.

Note: It is important to check account numbers before you start entering entries. Once an account has been designated in an entry, the Account no. field can no longer be modified.
