Using Extended Keywords
BiblioMaker manages an Extended Keyword Index. What is it and what purpose does it serve?
What is the Extended Keyword Index?
In the Titles file, an Extended Keywords field appears in the list of fields when you call up the Action>Search command, for example. This field combines data entered in other fields of the Titles file, such as :
- Abstract
- Authors
- Authors index
- Category
- Custom fields
- EAN Code
- Imprint
- ISBN-ISSN
- Keywords
- Notes zone
- Observations
- Remarks
- Secondary Entries (BiblioMaker PRO only)
- Series
- Shelf Mark
- Title
By searching in the Extended keywords field, the program will find all the records whose fields above contain the terms you're looking for. This is a kind of full-text search.
Note that you can define the scope of the Extended Keywords index yourself, by selecting the fields to be indexed in the field. To do this, call up Options from the Titles file (via the Action>Options menu), then click on the General button and finally on the Extended Keywords tab. In the list of fields, tick those you wish to include in the index.
Please note that any change in the choice of fields implies a complete re-indexing of the Extended Keywords field, which may take several minutes depending on the size of the data file and the number of titles saved.
When is the Extended Keyword Index used?
- As mentioned above, if you select the Extended keywords field, you can use the Action>Search command.
Note: you can only enter one keyword per search criterion. So, if you want to combine several keywords, create several criteria lines, each containing a single keyword. - In the main Titles window, using the search field in the top right-hand corner of the button bar.
- In the online catalog (WebOPAC), using the Simple Search function.
