Switch from one field to another during data entry
While entering or modifying data in a record, use the Tab key to move to the next field and the Shift-Tab key combination to return to the previous field.
Entering data in the fields of a record is not comparable to typing in a word processor. Most fields accept only a limited number of characters, on a single line.
However, some so-called "long text fields" allow text to be entered over several lines. In these fields, the Return key creates a new paragraph instead of moving the insertion point to the next field.
Although it is possible to use the Return key and the Shift-Return combination, to avoid confusion it is preferable to use the Tab key, which is the most conventional method.
Of course, you can also use the mouse to place the insertion point directly in the desired field.
