How to activate automatic numbering of shelf marks

Various document classification systems can be used with BiblioMaker, such as the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) or the Dewey classification. Some libraries choose their own classification, for example, by creating call numbers composed of a class mark followed by a running number (e.g. BIOL 122, BIOL 123, BIOL 124 to classify the 122nd, 123rd and 124th titles in the Biology section). In such cases, the program can automatically assign the next current number to the title being catalogued. Here's how to set up the program:

In the Class Marks file (accessible via the Data menu), call up Options via the Action>Options command.

Check the Automatic Nr of shelf mark box, then enter the character separating the class mark from the number (e.g. space, dash, slash, etc.). Validate the options.

Then edit the Class mark records for which you wish to activate automatic numbering. The Class mark record contains an additional field called Next number. Enter the number of your choice in this field. Leave the value at 0 if you don't want the program to assign a number when this class mark is chosen.

From now on, when cataloging a title, if in the Class mark field you select a class mark for which a next number has been defined, the program will automatically add this number after the class mark in the Shelf mark field, and the next number will be updated in the Class mark record.
