What to do when the client workstation cannot connect to the server

Do you get an error message when starting the Office Maker/BiblioMaker Client software? Here are the points to check to diagnose the cause of the problem:

A) If the Office Maker/BiblioMaker database is hosted on the Micro Consulting cloud server*

  1. If several workstations are equipped with Office Maker/BiblioMaker Client software, do all of them have a connection problem, or just yours? In the first case, it's either a network problem or a problem on the server. In the second case, make sure your workstation is connected to the network.
  2. Check that your network is working (can you visit websites?). Make sure your firewall isn't blocking connections to the server.
  3. If workstations are Macs, do they use macOS 15 Sequoia or greater ? If so, check in the System Settings, Privacy and Security, Local Network if the Client software is allowed to connect to the network.
  4. Contact Micro Consulting to ensure that the cloud server is working properly.

*If you do not know whether the database is hosted on the Micro Consulting cloud server, you can determine this as follows:

Exit Office Maker/BiblioMaker Client and restart the program by pressing the Shift key until the Server connection dialog box appears. Click on Last connection in the top left-hand corner and position the cursor on the server name displayed in the right-hand section. The tooltip that appears shows the server address. If this is cloudX.officemaker.ch or cloudX.bibliomaker.ch, your database is hosted on our cloud server. If not, the server is either on your premises or with a third-party host. Contact your IT manager.

B) If the server hosting Office Maker/BiblioMaker is hosted on your premises

  3. If you have access to the server desktop, check that Office Maker/BiblioMaker Server is up and running normally. If necessary, restart the Office Maker/BiblioMaker Server application, or even the entire server (inform users in advance so that they can disconnect from the server). Start the Office Maker/BiblioMaker Client software installed on the server and try to connect to the server. If the local connection works, but not from a workstation, the problem is in the network (cable disconnected, router or firewall incorrectly configured).
  4. If workstations are Macs, do they use macOS 15 Sequoia or greater ? If so, check in the System Settings, Privacy and Security, Local Network if the Client software is allowed to connect to the network.
  5. Contact Micro Consulting to get help.
Note: Micro Consulting technicians can only provide assistance if they can remotely take control of the server and a workstation. It is therefore essential that these computers are equipped with TeamViewer software, which you can download free of charge.

C) If the server hosting Office Maker/BiblioMaker is hosted by a third-party company

  4. Contact the third-party company to arrange for a technician to work on the server.
